Corporate Social Responsibility
Toshiba is committed to playing a leading role in helping establish a sustainable society. At Toshiba, we believe that the earth is an irreplaceable asset and that it is the duty of humankind to hand it over to future generations as we found it, if not in better condition. For these reasons, Toshiba promotes the three R’s (Reduce, Re-Use, Recycle) throughout our manufacturing and business processes, including green procurement, recycling programs, and creating efficient, Energy Star compliant products with the lowest possible environmental impact.
CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY
At Toshiba, corporate responsibility means commitment at every level within our company worldwide. “Committed to People, Committed to the Future” is integral to every company initiative. In 2004, we joined the United Nations Global Compact, pledging to adhere to its universal principles. This voluntary corporate citizenship initiative seeks a sustainable global economy through compliance with internationally recognized principles concerning human rights, labor and the environment. “Doing the right thing” is more than a good idea; it the only way Toshiba conducts business.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
In an effort to maintain fair and equitable business practices and earn the trust of all the communities in which we do business, Toshiba strives to be a good corporate citizen, placing high priority on legal compliance, human rights, and the environment. These principles are the heart of all our business management practices.

The ideal situation in 2050
People leading rich lifestyles in harmony with the Earth: this is the ideal situation in 2050 that Toshiba Group envisages. There are three challenges to be met. Firstly, the environmental impacts of population growth have to be reduced. It is said that environmental impacts associated with human activities already exceed the Earth’s tolerance. Moreover, the world’s population in 2050 is expected to exceed nine billion. As well as curbing the increase in greenhouse gas emissions, it is necessary to mitigate environmental impacts resulting from population growth, such as problems concerning water and resources. Secondly, great economic disparities exist among countries, and so countries that are in the midst of economic growth need to ease the environmental impacts of economic growth while creating a society where people can enjoy rich lifestyles. And thirdly, the most important challenge for a manufacturer is to create rich value while minimizing environmental impacts.
In view of these three challenges, Toshiba Group has established Environmental Vision 2050 for the period through to mid-century. Read More...
